Henri Jaillot Gulf of Mexico Map 1694
AMERICA SEPTENTRIONALIS map of 1694 by Henri Jaillot was the best to that date of North America. The Indian towns on Soto's route begin reasonably in southwest Florida at a port named Juan Ponce. The town of Mococo is shown on the southwest shore of a two-pronged feature called Cape Carlos. The names of Tampa and Holy Spirit do not appear. (Library of Congress)
