| A PLAUSIBLE
ROUTE of the Soto expedition
was set down by Guillame de Lisle in 1718. However,
a strange rendition of the Bay of the Holy Spirit
confuses the landing place. The name Tampa is
applied to a stretch of Gulf coast in a latitude
north of its present location, and the name Carlos
indicates a group of native villages on the south
shore. Muspa was a prominent Calusa village.
