1566 Santa Cruz New World Map
SPANISH TOWNS and landmarks in the New World were charted about 1566 by Santa Cruz, cosmographer to King Charles V. It shows Rio de Saint Agostine which was founded by Menendez in 1565. Gulf coast features, south to north, are Dry Point, Ponce Bay, Tocobaga Bay and River of the Holy Spirit. (Archivo Historico Nacional, Madrid)
