INDIAN
ROADS of Florida were well
established when Spanish explorers came to the
New World. Soto, particularly, took advantage
of them. This 1708 map by Herman Moll depicts
two prominent Florida trails. One linked St.
Augustine and St. Marks. The other path paralleled
St. Johns and Kissimmee rivers south to Lake
Okeechobee. (Public Record Office, South Carolina)
