1757 Fransisco Celi Tampa Bay Soundings
FIRST ACCURATE SOUNDINGS OF TAMPA BAY were charted in 1757 by Francisco Celi for Spain. He found a minimum of three fathoms good water through the main, center channel. Zig-zag track indicates tacking movements of Celi's ship. Embellishments depict Indian activities, plant and animal life. (Library of Congress)
