1769 Thomas Jefferys Tampa Bay Soundings

BAY OF ESPIRITU SANTO
was mapped for England in 1769 by Thomas Jefferys, surveyor for the American colonies. He sounded Hillsborough Bay and the north entrance abandoned by Celi. A few depths are noted for Tampa Bay but attributed to Spaniards. Minimum water through the center channel is given as 2 3/4 fathoms while the north and south channels are given 3 fathoms.(Library of Congress)
