Ponce De Leon Florida East Coast Landing - Ormand By The Sea

EAST COAST LANDING of Ponce most likely occurred at Ormand By The Sea shortly after making landfall one league from shore at nine fathoms. He then sailed north for a short distance searching for a harbor before turning south and anchoring in an inlet named Mosquito on old maps but now known as Ponce de Leon Inlet. Only other spot meeting the unique league-depth relationship is off Crescent Beach, but it is too near St. Augustine to permit a sail north without discovering ít.
