STRANGEST MAP of Florida was compiled by Thomas Jefferys in 1763 "from a collection of French and Spanish charts." It illustrates a book written hurriedly by William Roberts to satisfy English curiosity about the newly ceded territory. The labyrinth of waterways renders the map useless but illustrates the paucity of accurate in-formation about Florida 250 years after its discovery. Later that same year, Jefferys made a field survey of Tampa Bay and rendered Tampa Bay's true dimensions.
